A Quiet Place

This song which I've sang back in my days in alumni kept ringing in my head for the past week. Don't know why too...

~~~~~~~~~~
A Quiet Place
(Ralph Carmichael)
There is a quiet place
Far from the rapid pace
Where God can soothe my troubled mind
Sheltered by tree and flower
There in my quiet hour with Him
My cares are left behind
Whether a garden small
Or on a mountain tall
New strength and courage, there I find
And then, from this quiet place
I go prepared to face a new day
With love for all mankind
M-pact in concert
Went for the above-mentioned event at the UCC Hall last night. I must say, this is one concert which I TRULY enjoyed. Their music still lingers and I'm still in awe of them even as I type this post. It's been a long time since I felt this way about concerts. Even my favourite music group - Klazz Brothers and Cuba Percussion - didn't give me the same feeling after attending both their live concerts in Singapore.
Prior to the concert, I have possession of their Christmas album "The Carol Commission". When I heard it on CD, it was just... OK, yeah. Yet another a cappella group doing the close-harmony stuff. I have always thought that M-pact is a mixed group. (My bad - never bothered to read the CD booklet.) But when I saw all but 6 guys on stage last night, I was just in bewilderment! How can a 6-guy a cappella group sound so full???? And also constantly kept the groove going without compromising on pitching! Not as entertaining as The Swingle Singers live, I must admit, but their sound and pitch-precision totally made up for it. (OK, they did make a slip in their last number, but hey! No one's perfect!) But having said all that, much credit must be given to the most under-rated, un-noticed man behind the scenes - the sound engineer! He really made the group sound that good! (Some glitches though, but ditto the statement above - nobody's perfect.)
All that made the whole hall give the group a deserving standing ovation.
Of course, the 2 local groups which entertained the audience before each half made M-pact sound even better...
A really musically-inspiring concert, in every sense of the word. Every cent well-spent. (Oh, did I also mention our seats got upgraded as well...??? :D )
Truly amazing... Indescribable... Speechless...
(How not to) meet the parents
Heard on a school's voice-mail:
To make excuses for why your child did not do his work, press 2.
To complain about what we do, press 3.
To scold staff members, press 4.
To ask why you didn't get needed information that was already enclosed in your newsletter and several bulletins mailed to you, press 5.
If you want us to raise your child, press 6.
If you want to reach out and touch, slap or hit someone, press 7.
To complain about bus transportation, press 9.
To complain about school lunches, press 0.
If you realise this is the real world and your child must be accountable for his/her own behaviour, homework, and that it's not the teacher's fault concerning your child's lack of effort... hang up and have a nice day!"
Singapore Motorshow 2006
OK, decided that I should post some photos of the Singapore Motorshow I went for last Friday with Kel and Dee. Personally, I didn't quite enjoy it - not many interesting displays. Anyway, here are some of the photos I took... Will put up the more interesting ones.
(The Lamborghini which supposedly changes colour but doesn't everytime I see it. :( )
(The Mazda MX-5. Very cute, this car.)
(The Subaru WRX STi S204, the car Ah-Seng can view only at the Motorshow. Too bad he can't bring his killer-whale.)
(I like this Ferarri!!!)
(The Suzuki concept kei car. Looks very cute... and very retro too.)
(If you look closely at the speedometer, doesn't it look like a weighing scale to you...???)
OK... These are all the photos I found the time to upload. Will try to upload all the shots on my photo sharing website when I have the time and energy. Have been sleeping early the past few nites, which is good...
Till later...
