HAPPY 2006!

WISHING EVERYONE A GOD-BLESSED AND GOD DIRECTED 2006!!!

Had a VERY happening New Year's weekend. The photo below summarises what I had been up to...

(me with the double-volume Shorter Oxford English Dictionary in the background. A shot of me playing Quiddler at Xian's place after Watchnight Service.)

Yup... the whole weekend saw me attending 2 parties in a row playing card/board games!

Was at PL's place on Friday night, where he held "The Wong Siblings House Party". Realised it's UK style to invite a whole jing-gang of people - church friends, uni friends, primary school friends, secondary school friends, uncles, aunties, cousins, kampong,... erm... maybe not quite - don't think his multi-purpose room can hold so many people..! So anyway, a few of us decided to be "anti-social" and played board games in his apartment, when the rest of the jing-gang were playing Cranium.

Must tell you more about the games we played at PL's party.

Charles introduced this board game called "Metro", which is based on a train system possibly in France. (An online version can be found here. Make sure you have JAVA enabled!) Quite an interesting game, but requires a bit of strategy. (i.e. thinking!) Since I was not in the right frame of mind to use my brain cells (or whatever was left), I just sat and watched.

Terry taught us a "friendlier" card game - Quiddler. (No relation to Quidditch, if you're wondering...) It's a game testing on your word skills, something like scrabble. You form a word with 3 cards in the first round, then progressing to forming word(s) with 10 cards in the final round. It's advantageous for those who are familiar with Scrabble (and the Scrabble Dictionary, since we used it to verify the words formed), so no surprises that Dean faired very well in this game. Learnt quite a lot of new words in the game, one of which is aa, which refers to a kind of lava.

Had another round of games after Watchnight Service the day after at Xian's place. This time, more happening, with gathering of 2 small groups and a WHOLE LOT of games - 8-player Halo 2 (!!!), mahjong, along with Quiddler, Metro and Munchkin. Since I only stayed for about 3 hours, I only managed to play Quiddler and Metro. Didn't manage to play mahjong and Munchkin ( :( ), and I wasn't prepared to stay till 3+am like the rest of them. (No wonder they were all late for church today!!!) And words formed in Quiddler were verified with the (not-quite-short) Shorter Oxford Dictionary instead (which explains the picture above.) Hmm... if the Shorter Oxford is 2 volumes thick, I wonder how many volumes will the "Longer" Oxford have...! :p Too bad that some words found in the Scrabble Dictionary weren't found in Shorter Oxford, though...

Well, the fun must end somehow... :(

Went to church today and played with the youths during service. (Yup, I know I'm no longer a youth, so I guess this makes up for my lost youth... :p ) Went for SG for a short while, after that, rushed home, changed and attended Dila's wedding with Hock Beng. Met some colleagues there and then proceeded with Esther to what was supposed to be shopping, but plans were foiled cuz of my migrane... :( (sorry, guys!) So we all decided to have coffee at BakerzInn. Wei Dee joined us too after church. It's good to catch up with them, especially since I haven't seen them at all during the hols.

The new year arriveth. I resolve (in order of importance):
1. To rely more on God in all that I do;
2. To be more consistent in my prayer and QT;
3. To be more patient with my parents;
4. Not to procrastinate on things I'm supposed to do;
5. To be more disciplined in work (career, church,...);
6. To buy a car (???);
7. To find a guy (???);
8. ...

OK... count Nos. 6 & 7 out... I was digressing... :p

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE! :)
